So I got a new camera today. It's a decent one - got it super cheap as a refurb. I decided to take a bunch of random pictures to test it out, then decided I ought to just go and make a Flickr page to save them all since I have a habit of never taking or saving pictures - ESPECIALLY of myself. BTW I'm still ugly so I doubt I'll actually take any pictures of me. |

Stolen from the ever-wonderful sockschan:
The Challenge: * Post 3 things you've done in your lifetime that you don't think anybody else on your friends list has done. * See if anybody else responds with "I've done that." If they have, you need to add another! (2.b., 2.c., etc...) * Have your friends cut & paste this into their journal to see what unique things they've done in their life.
The answers:
1. Got a sizable scar from a blowgun dart (won't tell you which one, though - the "blowgun dart incident" will forever remain a mystery) 2. Cut TWO couches in half with one knife (and a crowbar to take off the metal) 3. Quoted one of the Awesome movies more times than I can remember, and still consider them funny (luckily my roommate AND my co-workers think they're funny, too)
BONUS ONE!
4. Forgot to post this entry that I wrote last night until now. |

R.I.P. funnyman. I'll still never forget the time I got to see him live. That man had a real gift for comedy, and he had it for so long. My parents went to see him so many years ago, and I think it's great that he's still funny after so long. |

So I thought to myself "Hey! Rush Hour 2 is on TV! I'm not overly fond of Chris Tucker, but I absolutely love Jackie Chan." so I was watching it while fixing two computers. After about two years of not watching TV I had forgotten how completely INSULTING the average commercial is. From doing their best to reinforce corporate branding to saying "eew" at everything that that's completely normal (but apparently needs to be cleaned now that somebody made a cleaner for it), to downright RACISM (black man who can't get insurance from the big companies and the company full of white people giving out the insurance - not a black employee in sight). I seriously felt insulted after every commercial. Gah. The good part of the movie is on now. I'll just turn off the speakers for the commercials from now on. |

| | IT'S A GUNDAAAAAAM! | ] | Oh wow. Gundam Universe was FINALLY released! Over seven years in the making, and I've been following it for five, if I remember correctly. And I can't even find my Quake III Arena CD!
I'm quite prepared for it to suck horribly, since it was mentioned that it wasn't done yet, but I have this terrible NEED to play as the Prototype GP-01 FB. NEED.
EDIT: I got salmon-botted when I posted this entry! Yay for conversations with confused random strangers!
Here's how it went down (and I kinda exaggerated on how long it's been since a math class since I had one the quarter before last ^_^ ):
(11:11:34 PM) SpurnedSalmon: I seem to have misplaced my math book. Do you have yours? (11:12:01 PM) Halifax Samuels: I haven't been in a math class in years. Perhaps you have the wrong screen name? (11:13:53 PM) SpurnedSalmon: huh (11:14:25 PM) Halifax Samuels: I'm quite sure I'm not who you *think* I am. (11:15:04 PM) SpurnedSalmon: ok (11:20:00 PM) Halifax Samuels: Ugh. Actually, I think it was an LJ bot that connected us on AIM. (11:21:46 PM) SpurnedSalmon: might be, with all the colors of the rainbow (11:22:23 PM) Halifax Samuels: Haha! Yeah, your text is all color-y to me. Fun times. (11:24:41 PM) SpurnedSalmon: mm hmm (11:25:44 PM) Halifax Samuels: Criminey! There's a whole LJ community dedicated to this bot!

And with that, I'm going to sleep. It's been nice talking with you, random stranger. (11:26:06 PM) SpurnedSalmon: okay (11:26:09 PM) SpurnedSalmon: bye |

EDIT: But BOY am I good at the Hula-hoop exercise! I need to get a few drinks in me first before I try that again - I know I HAD to look awfully stiff while doing that. Apparently I did very well, though... |

16 comic books 2 Hero Clix (both Iron Man) 1 Star Wars board game clone trooper figurine 1 Green Lantern poster
...
Oh, and I bought a trade paperback (Outsiders #7) while I was there.
Free Comic Book Day was a success despite, sadly, the apparent closing of Bug's Comics a while back without my knowing. Went to two different comic book shops in Edwardsville. Also, Mike, if you didn't get one (I think the one in Edwardsville was giving them away for free from their own personal stock) I asked Tom to grab you a Green Lantern poster, too. So if he doesn't suddenly gain an interest in The Green Lantern Corps, I'm sure he'll have it waiting for you. It broke my little heart that the posters were limit one per person, though, 'cause I desperately wanted that DC Infinite Crisis poster...
Now if only Luke weren't such an ass and had gone with us I coulda had him grab one for me...
Well, if you'll excuse me, I have some comics to read. ^___^ |

Geez. My favorite day of the year, and I constantly find myself forgetting about it. Saturday May 3rd. I'll be heading out to Bug's comics in Florissant and maybe out to the comic book shop over in Edwardsville. That was a nice little place. All I hope is that somebody has the newest Teen Titans and Outsiders trade paperbacks because I'm behind. |

Does anyone else watch Avatar: The Last Airbender? Book 3 Volume 3 is about to be released, and I rented it early from work. About 2 minutes into the first episode I notice that Katara's pendant on her choker reads "666" above some squigly lines. I'm so confused.
EDIT: It's apparently supposed to look more like this. Apparently an animator got lazy or something. Haha discrepancies!
DOUBLE EDIT: She must have more than one or something... |

Sadly, these are the only backercards I could find, and my roommate'll be home before I can unearth more (if I have more). Well, I guess this'll have to do for surprises for now. At least until I find out what to put over my "Thank You For Not Smoking" sign. I've got a piece of paper sized up to cover "Smoking" but I can't think of anything funny enough... |

| | Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds | ] | I got a new computer. Quad core 3.0 GHz CPU, 2 GB DDR2 1066MHz RAM, and my old trusty ASUS ATI Radeon X800XT PE (along with anything I could reasonably salvage from old boxes while keeping them working). It overclocks well, considering the CPU is 2.4 GHz stock. ^___^
I got some new headphones. Skullcandy Smokin' Earbuds. I've never before thought, even at concerts, that my hearing was in danger before I got these. I lover them. ^___^
I got an MP3 player a long time ago from my brother-in-law and never really used it. It's an Archos Jukebox 10 that I put a 30 GB drive in and installed RockBox on. I'm listening to it now. ^___^
Got a DS for X-mas and I bought an M3 DS Real so I can play any DS game there is on it (I think I mentioned this already). I play DS all day now. ^___^
Things could be worse. Now if only I could get a better-paying job I'd be set. I can't wait until my car is paid off. Hell, I can't wait until my HOUSE is paid off.
...
I mentioned I own a house now, right?
...
Anyway, my dad's helping (read, doing it all by himself so far) finish the basement. Hopefully that'll be done inside of 6 months, though that's probably much sooner than it'll actually be finished.
I've even been watching some movies lately. One sure sign that I'm in a good mood is me watching a movie by myself. I usually don't want to watch movies by myself unless I'm feeling pretty good. Y'know, I never realized that I've never seen Monty Python's The Meaning of Life before. I've owned it for years, too. |

Mutated reply to sockschan's post. It was a reply once, then it just got worse and worse until it was a pointless rant. Enjoy!
God I wish I could get antidepressants that worked. My depression isn't the "mental anguish" kind or the "I'm so sad" kind, but more the "..." kind. When I try to go and do things that would incite change in my life, it's like part of me shuts down. Some part of me wants things to just freeze in time and never change, so that nothing difficult or painful ever has to be done. Apparently this type of depression also screws with the part of my brain that helps me sleep normally, and when I told both those things to my doctor he believed right away that I was depressed.
It's weird, because it's hitting me now. I'm trying to write about this, but I keep wanting to just stop, or do something else (something unproductive). It's not just laziness or being easily distracted, either. I'm supposed to be studying for my IS 311 and EG 372 finals I have tonight. But whenever I think of doing that work my mind just kinda goes numb. I just can't seem to finish anything easily. It's good that my work and school are scheduled beforehand, otherwise I might have a hard time going - of course, I always do homework the morning before a class, and I never study. Thankfully, I'm always able to do good in classes because I learn enough to get a good grade while I'm still in class.
I'm sure my depression counts as moderate since I'm not thinking about suicide, but it's negatively effecting (affecting? I never get it right) my life and I haven't been able to break free from it for years. Unfortunately, I also have some issue (problem? blessing?) where medications and drugs often don't have much of an effect (I think I got that one right) on my body, if any. I got a bit of a placebo effect at first from the antidepressants, but that was only the first time I took them (I was feeling good that I finally went to the doctor about it). Most drugs and caffeine don't effect me at all, but (un)fortunately alcohol still does.
Of course, I also have a deeply-rooted dislike of any type of medication whatsoever. When I was a kid, my parents made me take Ritalin, and I could actually feel it when it was working - I ended up with no energy to run around and play with people at recess. I told them that, and they would just respond with "good, then it's working." After that, I never wanted to take pills again.
Alright, look. This just isn't working. I need to study, and I'm now in the middle of playing two different games at once. Forget spellchecking this, I've got finals to prepare for. I'll edit it later. |

| | House! | ] | INTERNET! I'VE MISSED YOU SO!
A house just isn't a home without a high speed connection to our favorite series of tubes.
...
Though this connections is a good HALF the speed I wanted, I can't get any faster without compromising too many things. I will not do business with Charter Communications, I won't be monitored in my online activities by my ISP, and I will not operate on a shared-bandwidth collision domain outside my house. Screw Cable. It might claim to be faster, but DSL is more reliable for bandwidth and security.
The house is nice. I'm not a fan of wood floors, but my feet have been doing better lately. So much so that I can walk without shows on (though I'd prefer not to test HOW long I can go before I screw something up again). I'll post pics of it once we get stuff unpacked more. I've got WAY too much stuff. Also, we can never open the blinds because we've got way too many stealables in our house. XP |

| Movies and house |
[Nov. 4th, 2007|10:15 am] |
Wow. That was a lazy Saturday. The laziest I've had in a long time. I watched three movies (Jackie Chan's The Myth, Bubba Ho-Tep, and License to Wed), which is more than I've watched in one day since my last Star Wars or Indiana Jones marathon. Other than that, I just sat around all day and did nothing in particular, and loved it.
Other than that, my room is beginning to get echo-y, since I'm starting to remove things from the walls in preparation of moving. Soon it'll be just a desk, my computer, my bed, and enough clothes for me to use until I move out. Hopefully I'll still have the computer chair. Oh, and also cat supplies. She hates moving (new places scare the crap out of her) so I'll have to keep her here until I'm ready to move in to the house. I've already moved a bunch of stuff (my comics filled four boxes, and I'm not even done moving all of them yet!).
But outside of the fact that I'm moving back to a city I've grown to hate with a burning passion, I'm still excited about moving into a house. Luke will be sharing the rent with me, and Tom said he could probably move in in December, so that'll help some with rent. And my freaking PARENTS are the landlords, so we won't have to worry about things getting fixed. Also, I've been told, my mom's going to be fixing up the front yard so it looks nice - she likes landscaping. My dad and I are developing plans on finishing the basement and talking about flattening out the back yard some to put in a simple patio, and I'm making plans to run RJ-11, Cat 5e RJ-45 (cat 6 would be nice), and coaxial cables through the walls to every room. I've also got to install grounded outlets, which I'm sure will be fun, but since the basement's unfinished, it'll help with access to all of that. |

| | Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames | ] | Guitar Hero III is freaking amazing. It's so much better to have the original band playing the songs and not have them re-recorded. I even like it despite She Builds Quick Machines not being in it like I heard before. Oh, and the end credits song is horrid. And amazing. It's horridly, amazingly difficult and great. |
